From Monday through Wednesday, December 4–6, weather permitting, San Mateo Parks and contractors will work to control regrowth of invasive eucalyptus across two acres on the northwest boundary of San Bruno Mountain Park, near properties along Florence St. and Mountain View Dr.
About the Project
Work in this area is part of San Mateo County Parks Forest Health & Community Safety Initiative, which aims to improve ecosystem health and resilience while reducing threat of wildfire to neighboring communities. In 2021 we created a shaded fuel break on the northwestern boundary of the park, adjacent to neighboring residences, by thinning understory trees and brush and removing dead and dying vegetation. This is our second follow-up to the initial work—the first follow-up occurred in April 2022. The purpose of follow-up work is to control the vigorous re-sprouting of eucalyptus in this area and ensure that the park and its neighbors continue to see the benefits of the original fuel reduction project.
Be Advised; Be Safe
This project requires the use of chainsaws and hand tools. Expect noise. Herbicide will be used and applied directly to stumps away from trails or other visitor areas. San Mateo County Parks policy dictates only spot applications of herbicide be used, never a broadcast application. Parks Department contractors may be seen in the park wearing personal protective equipment while applying herbicides. You can help us expedite this important work by avoiding the project area.
