From Tuesday, February 21 through the end of March, crews will thin low growing vegetation and remove dead or unhealthy eucalyptus trees in the Iris Point Youth Camp, as well as remove dead and hazardous Monterey Pines along the park's primary access road. See advisory for more information
About the Project
San Mateo County Parks works to improve the ecological health of Junipero Serra Park and reduce wildfire risk to nearby communities by managing trees and vegetation within the park.
In January 2020 we collaborated with CAL FIRE to treat approximately five acres of vegetation along the boundary of the park and houses along Terrace Drive in Milbrae. The project focused on expanding an existing shaded fuel break to improve defensible space for neighbors by removing brush and small-diameter trees. Planning for this project included assessment of the area for special status species and identification of erosion prevention measures.
