Today I had the honor of presenting Nereyda Guzman with a commendation for the successful completion of the first “Save A Life” EMT Scholarship Program in partnership with the American Medical Response (AMR).
The “Save A Life” scholarship was announced on May 21, 2016 and Nereyda’s scholarship allowed her to attend the College of San Mateo’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Training Program. The purpose of this program is to bring opportunity, education, and employment to the lives of young adults in District 4. The “Save A Life” Scholarship not only offers the scholarship awardees a free EMT education, but AMR also to offered employment to the scholarship awardees once they have successfully completed the program.
Nereyda Guzman is passionate about serving her community, and has a long history of community engagement in North Fair Oaks. She was named the North Fair Oaks Festival Queen in 2013, was the first youth member to sit on the North Fair Oaks Community Council, and participated on the North Fair Oaks Youth Initiative among other community organizations. She is also a proud mother of a 3-year-old son. I am very proud to see Nereyda succeed and I am sure she will make a real difference in our community!
