Finding a parking spot on Middlefield Road in North Fair Oaks can be tough. And with construction of the Middlefield Road Improvement project set to begin soon – I have made it a priority to add more space for parking.
Back in 2013, San Mateo County conducted a parking study in North Fair Oaks. This study outlined parking demand and supply solutions specifically tailored to North Fair Oaks' current and projected conditions, acknowledging anticipated Middlefield Road Improvement projects.
To mitigate a shortage of parking spots, the County purchased a lot at 3060-3080 Middlefield Road, and turned it into a parking lot.
Over the last year or so, the County has had on-going conversations with the North Fair Oaks community to determine details of the parking lot. At an October 2016 meeting, over 50 residents attended to share and discuss their vision. Residents have had a say in details ranging from fencing and lighting, to landscaping and parking time limits.
The parking lot, which is close to shops on 3rd, 4th and 5th Avenues, has free, two-hour parking. There is no parking between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am.
Additionally, over 20 talented artists from across the County have submitted designs for a new mural. The submissions are currently being reviewed, and the winning design will be painted on the blank wall of a building bordering one side of the parking lot. The mural, celebrating the culture and community of North Fair Oaks, will add beauty to the new 3060-3080 Middlefield Road parking lot.
The parking lot and mural will be open to the public later this spring!
