Investing in our youth is key to the success of our communities. Therefore, I presented two Measure K requests during April 10, 2018 Board of Supervisors meeting.
The first request was of $30,000 to fund One East Palo Alto Sponsored Employment Program. This is a summer employment program for vulnerable low-income young adults from ages 14-24. This program will give young adults in East Palo Alto and Belle Haven opportunities of summer employment and learn important job skills. The second Measure K item was of $3,000 for the Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation for the OYE Latinx Youth Conference in San Mateo County. The OYE Conference was created in 2010 to address Latino youth concerns regarding education, health, safety, and immigration. This year the conference will bring together 300 teens and young adults from Redwood City and North Fair Oaks to explore questions of identity and build community throughout the day.
