Those of you who know me, know that swimming changed my life. Raised by a single dad and living from place-to-place, being part of my high school’s swim and water polo teams gave me instant family and structure. It taught me the value of team work and about water safety. That’s why I was so pleased to learn about the non-profit Beyond Barriers Athletic Foundation – their mission, is to promote healthy lifestyles, improve personal safety and provide structure for lifelong achievement by providing subsidies for aquatic programs serving disadvantage youth. Did you know that children of color are three times more likely to visit an emergency room or even lose their lives because of a swim accident.
For all these reasons I was happy to sponsor a one-time Measure K grant of up to $25,000 to Beyond Barrieres Athletic Foundation for swim scholariships for children in need in North Fair Oaks, East Palo Alto, and Belle Haven.
