On Wednesday, December 11th, I collaborated with SamTrans and Facebook to hold a meeting for residents of North Fair Oaks, discussing the Dumbarton Rail Corridor. The proposed Dumbarton Rail Corridor would run from Redwood City to Newark along the Dumbarton Rail Bridge. The bridge has been out of commission since the early 1980s, but it represents an opportunity to close a link in public transportation.
Winsome Bowen, a representative from Facebook, updated attendees on the project, announcing a possible Middlefield Road train station. The Middlefield Station would be centrally located in North Fair Oaks, yards away from where the meeting was held at the Fair Oaks Health Center.
Meeting attendees were enthusiastic about the project. Great questions were posed including one about the type of trains to be used. A SamTrans representative assured the crowd that they are only considering electric trains which will reduce noise, vibrations, and pollution. Another attendee, a local businessman indicated that he was excited for the attention the station could bring to his store on Middlefield Road.
