    Highlights from February 12, 2019 County of San Mateo - Government Board meeting:

    • The Board approved resolutions for the STAR Awards recipient. The STAR Awards recognize San Mateo County programs for their outstanding contributions to the organization/department and our community. There were six programs recognized for innovation: San Mateo County Health's Care Transitions and Depression Screening in Primary Care programs were recipients of the Program Performance Award; San Mateo County Offices Treasurer Sandie Arnott and her team were recipients of the Customer Service Award for the Property Tax Mobile Mailbox; the Green Award was given to both the Office of Sustainability for the SMC Commuter Shuttle Program and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office for their Firearms Range lead maintenance and environmental safety program; and In-Home Supportive Services was given the Diversity Award for the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity program. Congrats to all your innovations to make San Mateo County a better place to work and live.
    • County Manager Mike Callagy gave the Fiscal Year 2019-21 Budget Cycle update. With an excess of $60M in ERAF funds, County Manager Callagy suggested that $25M be put toward our unfunded liability. The remaining $35M will be spent on recreational areas that need upgrades, including San Mateo County Parks Flood Park in Menlo Park, San Mateo County Memorial Park, Coyote Point Recreation Area. Promenade and a pilot program to purchase tiny houses for Park Ranger housing. Thank you to the 26 speakers who talked about the need for an additional $30M to support affordable housing, and more specifically, housing for those suffering from developmental disabilities. I support this request.

    • The Board held a study session on budgeting Measure K revenue for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2019-21 – which will include $50M request towards affordable housing for County of San Mateo - Department of Housing to leverage for more projects in the pipeline. Big Lift is also a priority with a request for $7.7M. Thank you to my colleagues Dave Pine and David Canepa for your continued work on this ad hoc committee.
    • The Board introduced two ordinances: a Social Host Ordinance to protect minors from alcohol, cannabis and other drugs; and the requirement of safe storage of firearms in a residence.
    • The Board adopted a resolution certifying the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration for the Middlefield Road Improvement Project in North Fair Oaks.
    •  The Board approved Measure K District 4-discretionary funds to the League of Women Voters North and Central San Mateo County for their New Voices for Youth after-school program that trains youth to be leaders though the use of media and storytelling, in an amount not to exceed $20,000.
