Board of Supervisors
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors is the five-member elected body that supervises the operation of San Mateo County. Watch Board meetings, find agendas and supporting materials for upcoming meetings, and agendas and minutes for past meetings.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is authorized by County ordinance to review the County General Plan and various development regulations and make recommendations on their adoption or amendment by the County Board of Supervisors. The Commission is also charged with reviewing and acting upon various development permits issued by the County. The County Planning Commission's jurisdiction is generally limited to the unincorporated areas of the County (outside city limits). Each city in the County has its own planning commission.
Zoning Hearing Officer
The Zoning Hearing Officer conducts public hearings on minor land use and development permits that the County Planning Commission would otherwise hear.
Design Review
The Design Review Committees were established by County ordinance to review the building plans for new development in certain unincorporated communities of the County which are zoned Design Review (DR). View the Design Review committees/officers for these communities below.
Business License Board
The Business License Board (BLB) is administered through the Planning and Building Department. Anyone looking to open a business in Unincorporated San Mateo County should visit the Planning & Building Department and find out if their proposed business will require a Use Permit. Some business uses are restricted by the Zoning designations for a particular land use or building site. Businesses can be cited for a Use Violation if the appropriate Use Permit has not been obtained.
Agricultural Advisory Committee
The Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC) was formed in order to achieve the objectives of the Planned Agricultural Development Ordinance to preserve the County's regional agriculture production. Meetings are held every 2nd Monday of the Month, depending on available agenda items.
